Quicksilver

(Imported from rocketcat-v1)

Get Quicksilver

I haven't written much for a while, so at the moment I'm meant to be studying for my CCNA, but I'm not.

If you use a Mac with OS X, you owe it to yourself to get Quicksilver. This is something that's so cool, powerful and fast, yet unobtrusive that Apple really should build it into the OS. Forget Dashboard, yeah, it's cool and looks pretty, but the fun soon wears off. Quicksilver is something I use every day, all the time.

So, what is it?

According to the homepage, Quicksilver is "An evolving framework for accessing and manipulating many forms of personal data."

OK, so what is it?

Quicksilver is an application launcher, it's a file finder, it's a place to store stuff, it's a great big keyboard shortcut to just about all of Mac OS X... Well, rather than me just copying and pasting, here's what it is:

What is Quicksilver

The power of quicksilver it the emergent behaviour of being able to perform actions on the items you find.

I've got it bound to a single tap of the Command (Apple) key.

Hit Cmd and BAM! there it is. Start typing something. Anything. Want to launch Word, type enough of W...O...R...D... and as soon as you see what you want at the top of the list, hit enter. Much easier than going to the Start Menu or locating it in the Applications/Microsoft Office folder, or even easier than clicking on it in the Dock. Quicksilver will learn what you use more often, and you'll need to type less and less to bring up favourite items. But, it goes firther than this... I use quicksilver to find a file, then using an action on it, I can email that file to a contact in my address book - all without touching the mouse, without using the finder or my email client.

Anyway, as I said above, if you use Mac OS X, you owe it to yourself to start using this amazing application...

Here's a few more pages that rave about it too:
